Hi Lauren! I’m Meg… (maybe?) your first fan from Japan! I love Love LOVE your blog! I I began reading “A Bicycle Built for Two” and clicked on the link to your blog! I started reading it (at work!! :)) a few days ago and worked my way backwards, all the way to your first blog! Was super fun and I enjoyed all the stories, pictures and recipies.
In fact, as I’m mailing you, the last batch of Double Trouble Chocolate Chip Cookies are baking in the oven! I hope to try many of your other recipies when I can.
I’m 31, married (husband is American) and have 14 year old son (who is 175 and growing!!) who I let taste one cookie and is now begging for more!–He’s got a test at school tomorrow so am stringing him along by promising him more cookies as soon as he’s finished with his homework!!
Anyway, don’t want to take up too much of your time! Will follow you on Twitter (please don’t think me a stalker!!) as soon as I get my new iphone!! Look forward to reading many more posts!!!

    Hi Lauren!
Lovely blog, I made the amazing coconut, curry, butternut squash soup for my parents this evening and they enjoyed it lots. Thanks for bringing some nice, both healthy and … not so healthy recipes to a cold autumn Sweden! Feel free to check out the pic’s from my dinner:
Keep up your amazing cooking! Thanks for sharing!

      glad they liked it!

  5. Kristie

I just came across your blog on pinterest. I had no idea you had this set up. Now I am hungry…

    1. Lauren Zietsman

Haha usually people wonder why I take pictures of food and such but I haven’t even doing it often enough lately that you’d notice! Happy to see you stop by though!

  6. Heather

    Hey Lauren!

Can I first just say you are a GENIOUS!? I just came across your site through Pinterest, and I’ve woken up every morning so excited to try a new smoothie that tastes freakishly close to whatever it’s supposed to taste like (LOVE the Banada Bread Green Monster)

I’m just wondering how healthy these really are for you? Are they really high cal? Pros, Cons?

Thanks for all the help and your delicious recipes!

    All the best!

    1. Lauren Zietsman

Depends on what you put in them! If you want the exact breakdown I’d find a nutrition calculator online and just enter in each ingredient. In terms of calories, I’ve been having a berry green monster lately for breakfast (spinach, frozen berries, banana, almond milk + regular milk) and I have to eat a hard boiled egg or something on the side cause it’s not enough keep me full until lunch! Make them based on what you need in your diet–need fat? Add walnuts. Need fiber? Add oats. Need protein? Add Greek yogurt!

Hi! I’ve been visiting your blog for sometime now and have been really enjoying it, so much so that I’ve tried to subscribe about a million times. For some reason everytime I hit subscribe it seems to take me to this page and I still get no awesome updates :(. I figured after finally stumbling on your page for the umpteenth time and being reminded of your awesomeness all over again I’d ask you about the problem. On a lighter note I Really love your photographs and you seem to have my exact taste in food, must be the hungarian taste. Thanks so much for sharing all those yummy recipes! P.s My mister and I seem to be just as obsessed with our kitty as you guys are with yours and they are twinsies too! Our little bunt cake is named Lint. Also this was my first comment on any blog ever! that’s how awesome you are! :)

    1. Lauren Zietsman

um…best comment ever. and I had a vague idea that the subscription thing wasn’t working well, and totally forgot SO…I’m going to try to fix it now! Thanks for commenting!

    2. Diana

Funny enough just after submitting the above comment I seem to have finally gotten a subscription confirmation. I guess all I needed to do this entire time was leave a comment, haha well thank you!!! Looking forward to your future posts. :)

      1. Lauren Zietsman

you definitely shouldn’t have to comment to subscribe, so something still isn’t working! but glad you managed to get on it anyway!

      2. Lauren Zietsman

Okay Diana, I think I officially fixed it (about time!) Thanks so much for the reminder and I’m happy to have you! If the original subscription didn’t work, feel free to try again :)

        1. Diana

haha I’m glad to hear it’s finally working! I’m sure many people must have wanted to subscribe! I know my first try was at least a couple of months ago, so I’m glad I finally brought it to your attention :) Also we just thouroughly enjoyed the sausage cabbage recipe of yours as we cuddled by the fire watching The Grinch. SO GOOD. Thank you!

  8. Sara

Hi, just stumbled upon your blog searching for whole wheat pasta recipes. Great recipes! Oddly enough I am baking meatballs as we speak, and thought I would share my variation with you. Being Italian, I’ve taken my moms recipe and made it healthier.

I Use both beef and pork, renders more flavor! Also, I have started using rolled oats ( not the quick kind) as a substitute for the breadcrumbs…… Of course it’s offset by the Parmesan that’s added, lol. The rest of the recipe is the same, can’t remember if you put fresh parsley ? But both parsley and some basil work well.

So happy to have found your blog!

    1. Lauren Zietsman

Thanks for the recipe–I love the idea of using rolled oats and will definitely have to try that next! I used dried parsley last time because I never plan ahead far enough to have fresh herbs :)

  9. Judy

Hey. I love your blog! was just wondering what type of bread the pic on main page is and if you have the recipe posted. Thanks

    1. Lauren Zietsman

It’s oatmeal cinnamon swirl bread and can be found here:

    Hi Lauren,
Just got onto web to look up numerous vegan crock pot
recipes & somehow came across your Moroccan
lentil stew recipe…you had included an ingredient,
‘garam masala’, and mentioned you had made
your own & would add in upcoming blogs how to
make-may I ask if you can share that now? Need to
find numerous ways to be creative for my husband’s
almost-vegan diet, that has some fish occasionally added.
He’s very ill with several problems, latest being partiality
amputated left great toe that hasn’t healed completely, and
we’re looking at another partial amputation next week, of
area that’s still ‘darker red’ color. We don’t have reason for
‘why’ blood flow isn’t reaching that little area, after angiogram
shows no blockage in left lower extremity. However,
we’ve resorted to complete juicing of an assortment of
veggies that are particular for skin healing since Feb 4, ’13, &
this has brought his insulin needs to 12 units/day, from 32. He
LOVES lentils & I make a lentil dish in variety of ways, and your
recipe looks yummy! Please share with me how masala is
May your future move to upstate NY be rewarding!

    1. Lauren Zietsman

Hi Gail! I’m so sorry I took forever to reply to this post–I saw the question while at work (very slow internet connection on my iPhone) and then totally forget to post the link later! Here’s the link to the spice mix:
I hope you make the recipe and that your husband loves it! It must be tough to find a lot of variety in a vegan lifestyle for him, so I hope this is something new you can add! I make a small jar of it and use it in recipes for the next few months, once I get on an Indian/Moroccan kick. Best of health to your husband! I’ll be thinking of him and will offer up a prayer for his healing. And you can help me out–what kind of juicer do you use, and do you like it?

  11. Glori

    Hi Megan,

I love this chocolate cake. I have made it a couple of times, but now I see the site that published the recipe is no longer up. Do you by chance have the recipe?

  12. Glori

I’m sorry, Lauren. I’m asking about the three layer strawberry filled chocolate cake. Thanks Glori

    1. Lauren Zietsman

Glori, I don’t have the recipe any more (learned my lesson about just linking to other blogs!), but I’ve recommended before any cake recipe from Annie’s Eats. I’ve had success with any recipe of her’s that I’ve tried.

  13. Nancy

I am SO glad you’re back. What happened to your “RECIPES” section? I used to browse it and now if I don’t know a recipe’s name, I don’ t know how to find it.

It’s so good to see you (and of course your cats) again.

    1. Lauren Zietsman

Hi Nancy! I took it down until I can go through and fix the links, add new recipes, etc. It shouldn’t be gone for too long :)

  14. Amber

Hey, Lauren- I’m SO glad you’re back! I was so glad to find your website, and so sad when you decided to stop blogging! Your honey sesame chicken and chicken tenders are on our monthly rotation. Can’t wait to try your new stuff!

    1. Lauren Zietsman

thanks! glad to have you reading still!

  15. Aileen

Thanks so much for blogging again! I had discovered your blog only after you had stopped posting, but I love your recipes. Recently, I attempted to find your crockpot lamb & apricot recipe and found instead that you were back at it! I’ve never followed a food blog, but I love to cook and eat the same kind of foods that you do, plus I love your photos. Thank you for introducing me to green monsters and daring me to try new, delicious ways to eat my vegetables. I’m looking forward to seeing what’s next!

    Hi Lauren!
I just found your blow, thanks to buzzfeed, and I’m so excited! I’ve been living on my own for the first time for the last year and I’m running out of food ideas. Seeing your blog has made me so excited to cook again! Thank you!

    1. Lauren Zietsman

These are my favorite comments! glad to have you! :)

I was wondering if you have some good recipes for dialysis patients. My husband’s appetite is diminishing. He says everything has a metallic taste to it. Any good suggestions. He is under the care of a nephrologist.

Sorry to hear that–that isn’t my area of expertise, since I know certain types of foods are not allowed!
